Maven Beauty - Basic Beat

Maven Beauty marked Fashion Nova’s first expansion into the cosmetics category, representing the company’s initial effort to build an affordable beauty brand from the ground up. Launched in 2020, the brand was designed to resonate with Fashion Nova’s core audience by offering accessible, trend driven beauty products that complemented the company’s fast paced fashion culture. The debut Basic Beat collection introduced five cosmetic categories in a range of shades, focusing on everyday essentials while maintaining a bold and expressive brand identity.

The launch was supported by a strong digital marketing strategy centered around social media and PR. Campaigns emphasized approachable, user friendly content, including in house video production and user generated content from influencers and customers. This social first approach helped build credibility, drive engagement, and introduce the brand to Fashion Nova’s existing audience.

Visually, Maven Beauty was designed to stand out in a competitive beauty market. The packaging and product components drew inspiration from bold, psychedelic design, featuring a vibrant color palette of bright orange paired with high contrast black and white stripes. This distinctive visual identity created a recognizable brand presence across packaging, marketing assets, and digital platforms.

Maven Beauty also launched a rose water scented setting spray and a prep-and-refresh spray, designed with packaging that combines the rich red of a rose with Maven's signature orange. I combined hand drawn and digital elements for use on the packaging. To maintain consistency with the brand’s previous aesthetic, I designed the logos using a psychedelic vintage typeface, staying true to Maven’s bold and distinctive style.
